The 2017 growing season in the Barolo area will be remembered for hot temperatures and minimal precipitation. Winter was mild with limited snowfall, while the first half of spring was defined by occasional rain showers and temperatures above seasonal averages resulting in early vine development. A sudden drop in temperatures was registered at the end of April with several frost events that affected in particular hillside vineyards. A lengthy period of beautiful weather began in the month of May and continued into the summer season, culminating with very high temperatures. Several isolated rain showers in the month of August provided generous groundwater reserves, essential for completion of the vines’ vegetative cycle. As of the first week of September, temperatures dropped considerably with significant temperature swings between day and night. In general, this vintage produced lower yields, but the grapes were of excellent quality. Harvesting took place on September 19th.

A blend of the best Carménère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from Le Mortelle’s finest vineyards. Ampio started out as an idea and became a reality in an exceptional vintage that reflects and represents the fullest expression of Maremma’s terroir.

The name ‘Proficio’ (pro-FEE-cho) is an homage to the ancient Antinori family motto “Te Duce Proficio”, which translates to “Following your guide, I flourish.” This phrase signifies the pursuit of excellence informed by tradition. Proficio embodies the pinnacle of quality and expression found on the Antinori Napa Valley estate, produced by the steepest and rockiest southwest oriented mountainside vineyards on the property.

The nose is expressive, complex, and balanced. Fresh aromas of green apple and white flowers are perceived, followed by citrus notes of lemon zest and bergamot, with a slight hint of flint. On the palate, it is full-bodied and well-structured, with sweet notes of butter and hazelnut, yet persistent and mineral.

Château Palmer, a distinguished 3ème Cru Classé estate in Margaux, crafts wines celebrated for their richness and longevity. With 55 hectares of fine gravel and clay soils, the vineyard is biodynamically farmed, featuring Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. Alter Ego de Palmer 2021, the estate’s second wine, reveals Château Palmer’s terroir-driven artistry with a bouquet of black fruit, spice, and graphite. Supple and round, it delivers a long, silky finish, offering elegance and approachability in its youth.
